A Musical Memoir
One Woman's Personal Journey
from Childhood Cancer Patient to
Long-Time Survivor
—Barbara Castro, Producer & Film Critic
Teri is an author, singer songwriter, and coach. Her recent project, Choosing Happy: A Musical Memoir, is a 50-minute audio show about her medical journey. Diagnosed with kidney cancer at age six, she was treated at the Boston Children's Hospital in 1960. Treatments were experimental and few survived. Teri's story is about her journey, challenges, and resolve. Teri hopes that cancer patients, family members, and those who struggle
with life in general, will find the memoir helpful.
The show is available to medical facilities, cancer organizations, and non-profits.
"I’m overcome by Teri’s story, narrated with grace and humor. If you’re a podcast fanatic like me, this is up there with the very best of them. If you’re not yet on the train, get ready to fall in love.”—Tom Prasada-Rao, Songwriter, Instrumentalist & Music Producer
“Choosing Happy: A Musical Memoir is a masterpiece not only to be heard but felt. A story songstress, Teri pours all her experience, strength and hope into this fascinating new narrative. This musical tale takes the form of liquid poetry. Her melodies are interlaced with hard-won wisdom that is pure stardust.”—Valerie Volinksi, Communications Specialist
"A beautiful, moving, multilayered memoir. The music, stories, and sound effects work together to create a dynamic, engaging piece of art that is not only about illness, but also self-hood, family, and hope. Powerful, important, and life-fulfilling."—Emily Weinstein Blacker, Writer & Teacher

"Choosing Happy: A Musical Memoir is a must for medical students—the honest, tender, and gripping story of a woman’s battle with a life-altering illness, how she overcame it, and how those treating her sometimes did her right (and often wrong!) The show offers so much information for medical students who will soon be seeing their own patients."— Joseph Gascho, MD, Penn State University College of Medicine
“Teri’s courageous story opened, softened, and eased my heart, bringing me closer to truth. Teri simplifies nothing and uplifts everything. She teaches us: Listen, this is the way through. Teri is a true spiritual guide, sharing her metamorphosis in song and word.”—Deene Morris, Leadership
& Team Building Coach
At 11 years old, Teri visits the hospital for her yearly check-up where she hears information that's alarming.
As an adult, Teri has a session with her therapist that proves enlightening and wonderfully hopeful.
Please send Teri your email to receive an invitation to a future listening event. Private group presentations can be arranged.
If you are inspired by Choosing Happy: A Musical Memoir, please consider donating to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Jimmy Fund to support research for children with cancer. The hospital, where I was treated as a child, is the home to groundbreaking cancer discoveries and provides expert, compassionate care since 1948.
